About the Artist
Cove Silas
I'm an 18 year old artist with an intense passion for art, specifically oil painting and drawing. I have been fascinated with painting and drawing from a very young age and continue to be amazed by the beauty of creation to this day. I feel that it is my role to communicate the world as I see it in not only a visual sense but an experiential sense as well. Being home-schooled, I am devoting the majority of my time and energy to my craft every single day to ensure I'm constantly growing and improving. I'm also constantly removing myself from my comfort zone by exploring a multitude of subject matter and approaches to painting and drawing. Along my art journey I've studied under a few great artists. These include Daniel Gerhartz, Stephanie Paige Thomson, Andrew Tischler, and Deborah Tilby. These artists have given me amazing insight to my learning. I am an Exhibiting member of the FCA (Federation of Canadian Artists) and member of OPA (Oil Painters of America). I have also entered notable shows such as the Modern Impressionist Salon, numerous OPA Shows, and the FCA Summer and Fall Exhibitions. I've received the OPA Shirl Smithson Memorial Scholarship in February 2024 and again in February 2025. In October 2025 and March 2026, I won 1st place in the FCA Fall and Spring Exhibitions. In November 2024, I won Best Portrait Award for the Youth Division in the Portrait Society of Canada. I'm constantly moved and fascinated by the incredible beauty of creation all around me. Whether its a portrait, still life or landscape it never ceases to amaze and touch me deeply. This is so gratifying and exciting to capture and I hope that I can communicate the same emotion with you through my work. I'm grateful to have this amazing blessing and gift of being an artist and I hope to share the thrill and excitement I feel about this wonderful world.
